We all have our spirit animals, and bears are mine. So I was in heaven - in a major ursa way - when I discovered Bear Grams. These simple drawings of bears doing bear things and bears doing not-so-bear-things leave me with a happy feeling every time.

I was also drawn to the spontaneity and silliness of the Grams. High fun, low drama!

So I decided to reach out to the anonymous artist for an interview. Why not!

What role did art play in your life as a child?

I have doodled my whole life. I love to draw, I love to create! Whether it was during lectures at school or tiny little bears on the corner of my homework, I loved imagining how I wanted something to look, and putting it together on paper.

What kinds of subjects are you drawn to and why?

My favorite thing to draw is bears (obviously!). I like being able to start with roughly the same shape every time, but each drawing gets its own theme and personality by the end of it.

Do you ever hit creative roadblocks, and if so what do you do to overcome them?

When I hit creative blocks, I usually go to the busy coffee shop on the corner of my street, relax and take in the world by watching people and cars go by. Thinking too hard blocks your brain; let inspiration come to you!

What's the best advice you've ever received about being an artist?

If you're going to do something, do a great job at it. Set a goal, focus, iterate, give it 100% and it will undoubtedly be something beautiful you can be proud of.

What's the worst advice you've ever received about being an artist?

Stick to what you're best at.
