If Mermaids Were Cats: This Anime Movie is like a Remake of a Fantastic Disney Movie

Don’t tell anyone, but as of writing, I’m not the biggest anime fan.

However, it’s looking like this might change, and change hard.

Last night I watched Whiskers Away on Netflix and I loved it.

Here’s the gist:

A lovestruck girl wants to be a cat (I know) so that her uninterested crush will love her (I know). When she swaps her human life for a cat life, all kinds of weird things start to happen.

Sound familiar????

It’s just like The Little Mermaid. There’s even a deceptive, obese cat who orchestrates it all—cue Ursula—and he tells the main character to act like a proper kitty and “Lick your butt like a good cat.” (I know.)

This movie, which sounds like something written by Chat GPT, was officially marvelous. It’s funny and sweet, and the characters are surprisingly complex and interesting.

Also to note: it has been updated with great dubbing.
